North Coast Sauvignon Blanc
Growing Region
The grapes for the Greg Norman California Estates 2008 Sauvignon Blanc were sourced from premium North Coast vineyards, known for their bright fruit characteristics, spectacular aromatics and crisp acidity. Warm daytime temperatures with moderating breezes from the Pacific ocean give the North Coast growing region the ideal growing climate. The grapes reach full ripeness but retain crisp acidity.
Winemaking
The 2008 vintage proved to be a challenge for the North Coast. A dry winter and cold spring brought a later harvest, but the Sauvignon Blanc fruit that came in was evenly ripe, with luscious tropical flavors and crisp acidity. The grapes were pressed directly to tank and immediately chilled and settled prior to fermentation. Most of the Sauvignon Blanc was cold-fermented in stainless steel tanks for crisp fruit flavors, while a small amount, less than 5%, was fermented in new French oak barrels to add a subtle richness to the lovely fresh qualities of the variety.
Winemaker's Notes
This inaugural vintage of the 2008 Greg Norman North Coast Sauvignon Blanc begins with bright aromas of grapefruit, lemon lime citrus and lifted floral notes. The gorgeous aromas lead to a palate with varietal characteristics of fresh grapefruit, lemon peel zest and some orange blossom notes. This is a young, fresh and vibrant wine with a crisp, clean finish - enjoy now!
