2003 Limestone Coast Reserve Shiraz

Reserve Shiraz

Viticulture

The fruit for this wine was sourced from vineyards in Padthaway, Wrattonbully and the legendary Coonawarra region in South Australia, which has become legendary for its wines made from vineyards grown on rich red soils overlying hard limestone rock. The 2003 vintage was warm and dry allowing Shiraz grapes to ripen perfectly with an outstanding quality combination of brightness and concentration of fruit.

Vinification

After crushing the fruit was fermented for 7 days in small rotary and static fermenters. Special fruit parcels were then pressed to barrel to complete 20 months' fermentation in a combination of American and French oak barrels. The finished wine is then cellared in bottle for 36 months prior to release.

Winemaker's Notes

The deep, purple hued color of the 2003 Greg Norman Reserve Shiraz is the first thing you notice in this wine. Not far behind are the beautiful aromas of ripe blackberry fruit, brown spice and candied violets. The mouth feel is rich and round with flavors of plums, blackberries, boysenberries and spicy clove. The well structured wine has fine, supple tannins and a long finish.

Cellaring

Excellent drinking now, but will reward careful cellaring over the next 10 years.
