2000 Limestone Coast Cabernet Merlot
Tasting Notes
The 2000 Greg Norman Estates Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot shows all the hallmarks of a medium bodied cool climate wine. The colour is a medium to deep red with crimson hues. The bouquet reveals rich dark berry fruit and plum aromas, complexed by smoky, spicy oak. These flavours are again evident on the rich palate with tight fruit flavours persisting on the finish. This wine has wonderful and elegant cabernet fruit characters coupled with the softness of merlot.
Grape Source
Sourced from the Limestone Coast region of South Australia, with the majority coming from the Wrattonbully and Coonawarra regions. The region is famous for outcrops of red soil that sits above a hard layer of coastal limestone - hence the region's name.
Suggested Food Pairings
Perfect with grilled meats.
Vinification
Separate parcels of fruit were fermented in American oak barriques, small 4 tonne fermenters and 20 tonne Roto fermenters. The wine was matured in new and seasoned French and American oak hogsheads.

"Lithe and generous, a supple red, with layers of mint-scented berry and currant flavors, all echoing on a fine-toned velvety finish." - Harvey Steiman
Wine Enthusiast (June 2002)
"Dark wood notes and pastry crust on the nose segue into blueberry and chocolate flavors. It's medium-weight and features a food-friendly tartness on the finish. Simple but good." - Harvey Steiman
The Wine News (February-March 2002)
"Brilliant, medium-ruby color; deep, black cherry and ripe plum aromas with a spicy oak backnote. Mint-accented dark fruit flavors bolstered by firm tannins; soft, fruity finish." - Gerald Boyd
Restaurant Wine (December 2001)
"Exceptional. Great Value. Very intensely flavored (loganberry, plum, eucalyptus, oak), fleshy, and long on the palate, with a lightly tannic finish."
Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (January 2, 2002 )
"Concentrated dark currant, blackberry and plum flavors accompanied by hints of spice and oak, fine-grained tannins and a firm finish." - Robert Neralich
The Times of Acadiana (May 8, 2002)
"G'day, Mates! Another fine example of marrying these two great varietal grapes. The Merlot accounts for 10 percent of the blend, just enough to take the edge off the tannins. Rich berry flavors combine with plum and cassis to make this smooth and rich." - Sandy Kaplan
